Expressive writing is not about writing to impress others or even being grammatically correct. Writing for Wellness means writing about whatever is weighing on your heart and mind.

Our lives are constantly bombarded with stressors that physically and mentally drain us, and this is especially true in recent times. Thankfully, there are several means that can help us cope with these stressors and even traumas, and writing is one of those means. Both experienced and inexperienced writers use writing as a tool to achieve healing, wellness, and examine traumas. Writing for Wellness, or Expressive Writing, is not about writing to impress others or even being grammatically correct. Writing for Wellness means writing about whatever is weighing on your heart and mind.

This workshop is presented in partnership with the Indiana Writers Center. Check out other writing workshops at library branches this summer and fall, and mark your calendar for our annual Meet an Author, Be an Author on October 19, 2024 at Central Library.

About the branch

What was known as the Shelby Branch began in 1918 when the library was housed in old School No. 34. A new branch was constructed in 1965 at the current Shelby Street location. Following a major renovation, the branch reopened in 2011 as the Garfield Park Branch, reflecting the desire of residents to refer to the branch by their beloved and adjacent Garfield Park.
