Have popular podcasts like Dimension 20 or Critical Role, or games like Baldur's Gate, made you curious about or interested in D&D, but you aren't sure where to start? Then this is the program for you!

This is a learn-as-you-play (and learn to DM!) for Dungeons & Dragons, and other tabletop role-playing games. Experienced players are welcome, too, of course, in fact we'll have a couple experienced players in each session, to help guide new folks. The adventures we play will be independent, one-session adventures with a very loosely interconnected narrative, so a new player can join at any time. There will be eight spots available per session.

Pre-created characters will be available so new players can jump right in, but you'll also get an opportunity to learn to create a character. If you are an experienced player, you're welcome to bring an existing character, but you may be asked to adjust their level to match the adventure.

D&D is a creative, social, interactive storytelling tool fueled by imagination and the occasional roll of some dice. It's fun, engaging, but can definitely be daunting to break into as a new player. That's what we're here for! Hope to see you at the table!

About the branch

The Spades Park Branch was built with funds from a $120,000 grant by the Andrew Carnegie Foundation and opened in 1912, six months after the opening of the city’s other remaining Carnegie Library, the East Washington Branch. The 7,500-square-foot branch underwent a $610,000 renovation in 1987 and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2012.
