Reading Ready Time is a virtual library experience specifically designed to help children 3-6 years old get ready to read and connect with the Library. Programs will be available for a limited time following the premiere on our YouTube channel.

Providing young children with a variety of storytelling experiences strengthens their vocabulary and helps build “story sense.”  After watching, try working together to retell the story.  What happened at the beginning, the middle, the end.

Additional resources to enhance learning

  • Young children enjoy hearing stories again and again.  This builds their comprehension and enables them to begin making comparisons between stories and their lives.  Once they know the traditional story, mix things up with reimagined versions from the library.
  • The Library of Congress has a nice, one-page version of the story.  This would be good for adults to use to practice telling the story without a book.  Once you get comfortable, you can embellish with details.  Listening to stories without looking at pictures helps children develop imagination.  It also allows them to tune into your facial expressions and body language, learning communication skills.
  • Try turtle racing! You can make a turtle yourself or print one from this website

About the branch

This is not a real library branch - this is the "location" for our events that occur online. Online events that take place on Zoom should all involve registration and a link will be emailed to participants. Other online events may occur on YouTube or Facebook, and will not require registration.
