Explore, learn, and create! Join us for our bi-monthly school-age program at the College Avenue branch library! This week, we'll discover the science behind real snowflakes, then experiment with different ways to create your own crystal snowflakes to take home!
Join us for Saturday Smarties at College Ave, a time just for school-age kids (ages 6-12) to hang out, be social and creative, and try new things, every other Saturday. For our last meet-up of 2025, we'll be exploring the science AND art of snowflakes. First, we'll take a closer look at real snowflake chemistry and talk about what makes them so unique. Then, we'll get to work and try out different techniques for making crystal snowflakes with a few simple materials. This is a chance to get scientific AND creative at the same time... and maybe we'll encourage real snowflakes to come our way too! Registration is not required, but encouraged.
Established as the Broadway Branch in 1924, the library served the neighborhood from a frame house on E. 42nd Street until 1958 when a 6,500-square-foot facility opened on Broadway Street. This aging and overcrowded building was replaced in August 2000 with the current 16,000-square-foot structure on College Avenue that was renamed the College Avenue Branch.
