Join us for a full day of music throughout the branch, an all-ages costume contest, and punk rock storytime.
Music fills the East 38th Street branch with five performances, including
- a participatory program from Song Squad Indianapolis
- the Suzuki School's Instrument Petting Zoo
- the Guy Holbert Jazz Ensemble
- Kailash Hemachandra representing the Carnatic Music Association of Indianapolis
- the local punk band I Got Worms
Come dressed as the star of your favorite musical genre for our all-ages costume contest. And bring the littles for punk rock storytime, followed with a performance by the local punk band We Got Worms.
No registration required. And if you're looking for a space to get quiet work done today, we might recommend any of our other branches!

About the branch
The first library to serve the neighborhood opened in 1957 as the Emerson Branch. This frame house near East 38th Street and North Emerson Avenue soon became too small to meet the neighborhood's needs, leading to the construction of a 7,500-square-foot branch at the same location in 1962. The Emerson Branch closed its doors in 2003 when the current 16,000-square-foot library opened as the East Thirty-Eighth Street Branch.
