Our small group will meet to discuss “Amazing Grace Adams” by Fran Littlewood. Pick up a copy of the book at Martindale-Brightwood. New members and fresh perspectives are always welcome.
Amazing Grace Adams by Fran Littlewood
Book Club Kit copies are available at the branch.
The themes presented in the book are a good fit for the celebration of the new year, the new beginnings it brings, and that change is never too late.
Summary courtesy of the Library catalog:“A funny, touching, unforgettable story of an invisible everywoman pushed to the brink--who finally pushes back. Grace Adams gave birth, blinked, and now suddenly she is forty-five, perimenopausal. and stalled-the unhappiest age you can be, according to the Guardian. And today she's really losing it. Stuck in traffic, she finally has had enough. To the astonishment of everyone, Grace gets out of her car and simply walks away. Grace sets off across London, armed with a £200 cake, to win back her estranged teenage daughter on her sixteenth birthday. Because today is the day she'll remind her daughter that no matter how far we fall, we can always get back up again. Because Grace Adams used to be amazing. Her husband thought so. Her daughter thought so. Even Grace thought so. But everyone seems to have forgotten. Grace is about to remind them...and, most important, remind herself.”
Our book club meets the first Monday of every month (with some exceptions*, see calendar for details) from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the community room. Future meeting dates and books:
The Brightwood Branch opened in 1901 as the sixth public library in Indianapolis. It served the Brightwood community at several locations along Station Street, one street west of its current North Sherman Avenue storefront site which opened in 1972. A 1996 renovation at this location doubled the size of the branch to 5,400 square feet. In 2020, a brand-new branch building, across the street from the previous branch, was completed and re-named as the Martindale-Brightwood Branch.
