Our small group will meet to discuss “The Night Watchman” by Louise Erdrich. Pick up a copy of the book at Martindale-Brightwood. New members and fresh perspectives are always welcome.
The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich is available in large print, print, an e-book, a pre-loaded audiobook, and a downloadable audiobook in the Library’s collection. Book Club Kit copies are also available at the branch. This book was selected to celebrate Native American Heritage Month.
Summary courtesy of the Library's catalog: “A historical novel based on the life of the National Book Award-winning author’s grandfather traces the experiences of a Chippewa Council night watchman in mid-19th-century rural North Dakota who fights Congress to enforce Native American treaty rights.”
Our book club meets the first Monday of every month (with some exceptions*, see calendar for details) from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the community room. Future meeting dates and books:
The Brightwood Branch opened in 1901 as the sixth public library in Indianapolis. It served the Brightwood community at several locations along Station Street, one street west of its current North Sherman Avenue storefront site which opened in 1972. A 1996 renovation at this location doubled the size of the branch to 5,400 square feet. In 2020, a brand-new branch building, across the street from the previous branch, was completed and re-named as the Martindale-Brightwood Branch.
