Individuals of all ages are invited for activities highlighting African American participation in the arts. Featured will be a keynote by award-winning poet, Black Arts Movement architect, and founder of Third World Press Foundation Dr. Haki Madhubuti.
This free event also will feature a special appearance by Indiana Poet Laureate Adrian Matejka. Other activities include a welcome address at 11 a.m.; a creative writing workshop at 11:45 a.m. inspired by the works Run Toward Fear by Dr. Madhubuti and Primer for Blacks by Gwendolyn Brooks; the keynote by Dr. Madhubuti at 3 p.m.; and a zine craft. Autographing and book sales will be available. This program will be held in the Center for Black Literature & Culture at Central Library.

As the hub of the Indianapolis Public Library system, Central Library showcases renowned architecture and services. The original 1917 building, designed by Paul Cret and constructed of Indiana limestone in the Greek Doric style, was considered one of the most outstanding secular buildings in the U.S. Its six-story glass and steel-framed addition, designed by Evans Woollen, opened in 2007.
