Meet the Artists XXXIII has gone virtual! Join us for the opening celebration featuring African Dance and Drumming with the Amoahs Drum Troupe led by Tony Artis. Hear about this year’s MTA Exhibit from curator Tony Radford and enjoy an opening welcome from Library CEO Jackie Nytes.
This program will be livestreamed on the Library’s Facebook and YouTube channels and will be available for later viewing.
This program is made possible by Christel Dehaan Family Foundation and Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation
Anthony “Tony” Artis received the name of “Yaw Amoah’(AH-mo-wah) in the village of Kwao Boa Easter Region, Ghana, West Africa, in 1992, during a visit in which he began his study of drum-making. Tony named Amoah’s African Drum works in honor of the teachers and people of Kwao Boa, for the extension of their knowledge, wisdom, love, and hospitality as they unselfishly welcomed him home.
