You are invited to a discussion about the history of Black August & prisoner resistance throughout the state of Indiana and the United States over the past five decades.
Guest speaker Baye Sylvester, former prisoner & Certified Recovery Specialist, will discuss the history of Black August and prisoner resistance, including the Attica uprising on 1971, Indiana`s own Pendleton uprising of 1985, and Black political prisoners Assata Shakur, Angela Davis, George Jackson, and more.

As the hub of the Indianapolis Public Library system, Central Library showcases renowned architecture and services. The original 1917 building, designed by Paul Cret and constructed of Indiana limestone in the Greek Doric style, was considered one of the most outstanding secular buildings in the U.S. Its six-story glass and steel-framed addition, designed by Evans Woollen, opened in 2007.
