Reading Ready Time is a virtual library experience specifically designed to help children 3-6 years old get ready to read and connect with the Library. Programs will be available for a limited time following the premiere on our YouTube channel

The Indiana Young Readers Center has a giant collection of children’s books written by Indiana authors.  Suzanne Walker, the IYRC librarian, is visiting with us today to share books and information about our state.  Learning about Indiana supports Indiana Early Learning Standards for older preschoolers SS3.2 Demonstrate awareness of places and regions.

Additional resources to enhance learning:

  • Orville Redenbacher, famous popcorn scientist, is an Indiana native.  Play with corn with some fun thematic activities.  Try some silly popcorn songs or fine motor skill building.
  • You say you are from Indiana and people say, “Oh!  The Indy 500!”  Check out these racing STEM activities from the National Science Teaching Association.
  • Every year, the State Library hosts the Firefly Awards for children’s literature by Indiana authors.  This is the only award I know of where the voting is done by children.  Enjoy these books from 2021, 2022, and 2023.
