Library Play is a dynamic one-person performance that fuses spoken word, theatre, and Afrofuturism to explore the role libraries (and librarians) play in safeguarding stories, preserving culture, and shaping futures.
Set in a near future where books are outlawed, the play centers on a lone storyteller determined to preserve Black history through oral tradition. Join Dr. Austin Dean Ashford, Artistic Director of Flanner House, for a staged reading of his original play.
The 20,000-square-foot Michigan Road Branch provides greater access to Library services and collections, engaging spaces for children, teens and adults, more computers, and a large community room. The branch opened in December 2018.
