Resumen General

Mejorando Juntos Indiana (MJI), en colaboración con La Plaza Inc., Arte Mexicano en Indiana, la Biblioteca Pública de Indianápolis, Marian University y Consulado de México, se complace en presentar una residencia literaria con las autoras María Julia Hidalgo y Elena Landa.

Esta iniciativa busca fomentar la expresión creativa, fortalecer la identidad cultural y generar un diálogo comunitario a través de talleres de escritura y presentaciones literarias en distintos espacios de Indianápolis.

Propósito e Impacto

Este proyecto colaborativo busca fortalecer los lazos comunitarios a través del poder de contar historias, ofreciendo una programación cultural accesible que eleve las voces latinas y enriquezca el panorama literario de Indianápolis. La presencia de las escritoras María Julia Hidalgo y Elena Landa inspirarán el diálogo intergeneracional y promoverá el empoderamiento creativo a los adultos mayores y sis familias, a través de la palabra escrita.

About the branch

The 22,000 square foot Fort Ben Branch provides easy access to Library services and collections due to its location in a high-traffic community with access to public transportation. It includes community meeting spaces and study rooms, beautiful landscaping components, and walk-up, bike-up, and drive-up material return locations. Its roof-top solar photovoltaic system will provides 80% of the building's electricity needs. The Library was envisioned as part of a redevelopment plan since the land was decommissioned and transitioned from the U.S. military to the City of Indianapolis in the 1990s.

The Branch is the first library branch in the state of Indiana to become a Certified Autism Center™ by receiving an international autism accreditation through the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES).
