Central Indiana is home to over 200,000 immigrants who contribute $2.1 billion in annual taxes and hold $6.3 billion in spending power. They also make up a significant chunk of the community workforce: 23% of workers in wholesale trade, 18% in construction, 17% in transportation and warehousing, 15% in manufacturing, and 17% of STEM professionals. Together, they form an intrinsic part of the region's role as a logistics hub, its life sciences sector, and manufacturing base.
We examine immigration across the Central Indiana region, focusing on how immigration pathways often connect to local industries and settlement patterns. Through this collaboration between The Polis Center, SAVI, and WFYI, we'll explore immigration as it actually functions in Central Indiana: part of the region's labor market, its neighborhoods, and its role in driving economic opportunity and equity.
Doors open at 5:45 p.m. with the presentation beginning at 6 p.m. and ending at 7:30 p.m. Register to attend and enjoy drinks, snacks, and great conversation that explores our community.
As the hub of the Indianapolis Public Library system, Central Library showcases renowned architecture and services. The original 1917 building, designed by Paul Cret and constructed of Indiana limestone in the Greek Doric style, was considered one of the most outstanding secular buildings in the U.S. Its six-story glass and steel-framed addition, designed by Evans Woollen, opened in 2007.
