Birders, bring your journals and get outside at The Wayne Library's greenspace, where you will have an opportunity to reconnect with the birds and each other. Discover how listening to birdsong can help relax the nervous system while taking some time to draw and record your discoveries in a journal.

Birders at the Wayne Library, let’s pick up where we left off! Last month you were introduced to the basics of bird watching. This month let’s get back outside for 30 minutes in the library’s green space with our journals and reconnect with the birds and each other. Discover how listening to birdsong can help to reduce stress and improve mood. You will also have an opportunity to sketch the birds observed and share your discoveries with other participants. The program will begin in the library’s community room where participants will learn about popular bird watching apps to record bird sightings, view available library resources on birding, and learn how to create a bird friendly environment in the community.

Please dress accordingly for the weather and bring your journals!

Crayons and colored pencils will provided.

About the branch

The Wayne Branch Library first opened in December of 1969 in a shopping center located at 7341 Rockville Road. Due to high demand, the storefront space was enlarged in 1973, but the need for more space was evident. A permanent 13,500 square foot location opened in 1984, and the branch remains in that same building today. The Wayne Branch underwent a $1.1 million renovation in 2020 to add more seating and activity space, study rooms, and a quiet reading area, but still features the split design of a separate children's and adult wing.
