As of 2020, Indiana's college-going rate is the lowest it has been in a decade.
The number of high schoolers going directly to college after graduation has fallen every year since 2015, when it was at 65 percent. The largest decline in 2020 was among Black students, who saw the college-going rate fall to about 43 percent. If more Hoosiers don’t earn college degrees and long-term certificates, it could threaten the state’s economy and prevent young people from getting stable, well-paying jobs.
What does it mean to have "good job"? Over the past several months, WFYI reporter Sydney Dauphinais had dug into what it means to have a good job, who has access to those jobs, and what areas need improvement. Data will also explore the decline in college-going rates, and high-need, high-paying jobs. Join members of the WFYI and SAVI teams for this interactive event as we dig into the data behind jobs and economic opportunity in Central Indiana.
