In this Ekphrastic Writing Workshop, we will examine visual art, including paintings, sculptures, and photos as inspiration for our own stories, poems, and essays.
Many creatives enjoy art and writing and with ekphrasis, we can use art to inspire our writing. In this Ekphrastic Writing Workshop, we will examine visual art, including paintings, sculptures, and photos as inspiration for our own stories, poems, and essays. By the end of this workshop, we will have a deeper understanding of the connections between visual art and writing, which will keep us inspired long after the close of our workshop.
This workshop is presented in partnership with the Indiana Writers Center. Check out other writing workshops at library branches this summer and fall, and mark your calendar for our annual Meet an Author, Be an Author on October 19, 2024 at Central Library.

The Spades Park Branch was built with funds from a $120,000 grant by the Andrew Carnegie Foundation and opened in 1912, six months after the opening of the city’s other remaining Carnegie Library, the East Washington Branch. The 7,500-square-foot branch underwent a $610,000 renovation in 1987 and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2012.
