Uncover the secrets of cuneiform, a 3,000-year-old writing system, with Dr. Amy Reynolds from The Indianapolis Public Library.

Culture, History, and Society: Rare Books and Special CollectionsJourney back in time with our ancient treasures. Discover the Babylonian tablets in our Special Collections, artifacts spanning thousands of years. Learn about cuneiform, a writing system used for three millennia, through an engaging in-person presentation with Dr. Amy Reynolds. Then, experience history firsthand by creating your own cuneiform tablet in a hands-on activity. Registration is required.

Presented by: Dr. Amy Reynolds earned her doctorate in Linguistics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and works as a Public Services Associate at The Indianapolis Public Library.

Location: This program will be held in person in the Indianapolis Special Collections Room (ISCR) on the 6th floor of Central Library.

Parking: Central Library has a parking garage available to visitors during their time there. See the parking garage pricing information. The garage can be accessed on Pennsylvania Street.

This in-person program is part of the Culture, History, and Society: Rare Books and Special Collections programs hosted by the Indianapolis Special Collections Room (ISCR) on the 6th floor of the Central Library.

About the branch

As the hub of the Indianapolis Public Library system, Central Library showcases renowned architecture and services. The original 1917 building, designed by Paul Cret and constructed of Indiana limestone in the Greek Doric style, was considered one of the most outstanding secular buildings in the U.S. Its six-story glass and steel-framed addition, designed by Evans Woollen, opened in 2007.
