Renew - Sustainable Fashion Art Reception

By Andralyn Yao

The "Renew" art exhibit will be available for viewing from July 2 - July 30, 2025. Join us for the reception on July 13, 2025 from 3-4 p.m. at Central Library.

This exhibition is titled “Renew”, comprising over twenty pieces of sustainable fashion design and artworks, all created from upcycled materials by a high schooler, Andralyn Yao.

Andralyn Yao is a high school student leader, self-taught fashion designer, and national award-winning artist whose passion sits at the intersection of visual art, sustainability, and behavioral research. With roots in traditional and fine arts, she first developed her voice through drawing, painting, and fashion design. Believing that art can drive systemic change, Andralyn began engaging the community and creating garments from discarded materials to confront the realities of overconsumption. Her pursuit of community advocacy further led her to research sustainable consumption behavior, where she explores how values and decision-making influence environmental outcomes.

She will share her story and insights while her current collection, Renew, is exhibited at Central Library.

About the branch

As the hub of the Indianapolis Public Library system, Central Library showcases renowned architecture and services. The original 1917 building, designed by Paul Cret and constructed of Indiana limestone in the Greek Doric style, was considered one of the most outstanding secular buildings in the U.S. Its six-story glass and steel-framed addition, designed by Evans Woollen, opened in 2007.
