Join us for a storytime with a Deaf presenter and American Sign Language interpreter! This program is fully accessible and enjoyable to both Deaf and hearing individuals.
This bilingual storytime is told in both American Sign Language and English. Kids (and their adults) will hear stories, learn relevant ASL signs, do chants, and more!
According to the American Society of Deaf Children (ASDC), “Research shows that reading and signing stories together helps promote essential literacy skills for ALL children: deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing.” Enjoy more signed stories by browsing our list of video read alouds in American Sign Language (ASL)! Just click on a book cover to enjoy one of the stories. To keep up-to-date on new releases and see a more complete listing, The ASDC maintains a running list of signed stories in their ASL Stories Directory. Use it to quickly find stories by a child’s age or by the book’s title.
Made possible by The Indianapolis Foundation Library Fund through a grant to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.

Established as the Broadway Branch in 1924, the library served the neighborhood from a frame house on E. 42nd Street until 1958 when a 6,500-square-foot facility opened on Broadway Street. This aging and overcrowded building was replaced in August 2000 with the current 16,000-square-foot structure on College Avenue that was renamed the College Avenue Branch.
