Discover the artistry and endless storytelling possibilities of puppets! Join us for our bi-monthly school-age program at the College Avenue branch library! This week, we'll be making puppets out of various craft supplies and putting on puppet shows afterwards.
Join us for Saturday Smarties at College Ave, a time just for school-age kids (ages 6-12) to hang out, be social and creative, and try new things, every other Saturday. For our first meet-up in September, we'll be exploring puppets! Learn a little about the art and history of puppetry, but most importantly, you can make your own puppet(s)! With a wide variety of arts-and-crafts supplies available, you can make your design as simple or as complicated as you like. As you create, think about the personality for your new puppet character, because afterwards, we'll be putting on impromptu puppet shows with our creations! Registration is not required, but encouraged!
Established as the Broadway Branch in 1924, the library served the neighborhood from a frame house on E. 42nd Street until 1958 when a 6,500-square-foot facility opened on Broadway Street. This aging and overcrowded building was replaced in August 2000 with the current 16,000-square-foot structure on College Avenue that was renamed the College Avenue Branch.
