Come and create! Every other month, we'll be celebrating Art for All - a program dedicated to all the wild and varied modes of art. Do you like to draw or paint? Maybe tessellations and design are more your speed? We’ll explore it all with Art for All! Ask library staff about this week's project!
What is a "whimsy" anyway? Merriam-Webster defines it as "a fanciful or fantastic device, object, or creation especially in writing or art." At the library, we want to foster and celebrate curiosity, creativity, and community, with a sense of wonder and fun! Join us after school at the College Avenue library for Wednesday Whimsies - a time just for school-age kids (ages 6-12) to hang out, be social and creative, and try new things, every other Wednesday! There are two versions of Wednesday Whimsies - "Art for All" and "Steam Team." Each month, starting in January 2026, library staff will lead kids in an exploration of either an art topic or a STEAM topic. Check the program schedule to see if it's Art or STEAM, and ask library staff for specific topics - but rest assured, every other Wednesday, there will be a Wednesday Whimsy program for your kiddo!
Established as the Broadway Branch in 1924, the library served the neighborhood from a frame house on E. 42nd Street until 1958 when a 6,500-square-foot facility opened on Broadway Street. This aging and overcrowded building was replaced in August 2000 with the current 16,000-square-foot structure on College Avenue that was renamed the College Avenue Branch.
