Adult Book Discussion at College Avenue
Monday, November 09
1:30pm - 3:00pm
Adults are invited to this monthly book discussion on the first Monday* of the month from 1:30 - 3 p.m. New members are always welcome! For the second half of 2026, we will read "pairings": a classic novel, followed by a modern novel that explore similar themes. See below for the dates and pairings!
-
November 9th - Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley
- Originally published: 1818
- Description from the IndyPL catalog: "A monster assembled by a scientist from parts of dead bodies develops a mind of his own as he learns to loathe himself and hate his creator."
-
December 7th - Klara and the Sun, by Kazuo Ishiguro
- Originally published: 2021
- Description from the IndyPL catalog: "From her place in the store that sells artificial friends, Klara -- an artificial friend with outstanding observational qualities -- watches carefully the behavior of those who come in to browse, and of those who pass in the street outside. She remains hopeful a customer will soon choose her, but when the possibility emerges that her circumstances may change forever, Klara is warned not to invest too much in the promises of humans. In this luminous tale, Klara and the Sun, Nobel Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro looks at our rapidly changing modern world through the eyes of an unforgettable narrator to explore a fundamental question: what does it mean to love?"
For the December meeting, the discussion will encompass both books!
*Meetings in September and November will be on the SECOND Tuesday of the month, due to planned Library closures.
College Avenue Branch
Established as the Broadway Branch in 1924, the library served the neighborhood from a frame house on E. 42nd Street until 1958 when a 6,500-square-foot facility opened on Broadway Street. This aging and overcrowded building was replaced in August 2000 with the current 16,000-square-foot structure on College Avenue that was renamed the College Avenue Branch.
