Children 3-6 are invited to a virtual Library visit! Join us from home to sing along, listen to a story, see new places, and meet amazing people. This week we visit with Indianapolis’s own Professor Watermelon for a fun-filled story time all about friends.

Reading Ready Time is a virtual library experience specifically designed to help children 3-6 years old get ready to read and connect with the Library.  We hope this program will help them make a connection, building on their path to becoming lifelong learners. In this week's episode, Professor Watermelon shares books and songs all about friends. The concept of friendship can take some work for early learners.  This program aligns with Indiana Foundations Standard SW4.1 (HW K-2.4.4) - Model ways to treat people with kindness and respect.  This and other Reading Ready Time episodes can be found on our YouTube channel

Additional resources:

  • Books are a great way to navigate feelings.  This list of books about love and friendship can help start some meaningful conversations.
  • Provide children with the opportunity to make their own friend using paper dolls.  Cutting these will be challenging for young learners, but they should be able to create and color clothing and design a face.
  • Have you ever discovered painted rocks in your neighborhood?  This is a fun way to spread kindness and build fine motor skills simultaneously.
