Expanding Our Story—Join us in the Indianapolis Special Collections Room (ISCR) at the Central Library to learn about the research process behind the upcoming Encyclopedia of Indianapolis feature on the city's Latine population. Registration is required.
About The Speakers
Amelia Simpson is an intern for the Encyclopedia of Indianapolis, researching and mapping the history of the Indianapolis Latine population for their upcoming feature. She graduated from Purdue University with a BA in History and will be an incoming Museum Studies student this Fall at Indiana University Indianapolis. She plans to pursue a career in museum collections repatriation, and her historical research interests include Latin America, Genealogy, and Minoritized Communities in the U.S.
Hannah Cortes is an intern with the Encyclopedia of Indianapolis and a Collections Assistant at Indiana University Libraries. She is currently pursuing graduate degrees in History and Library and Information Science (MLIS) at Indiana University Indianapolis. She earned a B.S. in History with minors in Military History and Psychology. Her research interests include Indianapolis history, Latin American history, Military history, and Genealogy Research. She plans to pursue a career in the Humanities, historical research, and public history, focusing on preserving and sharing local histories.
Reading List and Display: Explores Indianapolis Hispanic and Latino history. The collection features both nonfiction and fiction titles.
Location: This program will be held in person in the Indianapolis Special Collections Room (ISCR) on the 6th floor of the Central Library, located at 40 East Saint Clair Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204.

As the hub of the Indianapolis Public Library system, Central Library showcases renowned architecture and services. The original 1917 building, designed by Paul Cret and constructed of Indiana limestone in the Greek Doric style, was considered one of the most outstanding secular buildings in the U.S. Its six-story glass and steel-framed addition, designed by Evans Woollen, opened in 2007.
