Sunshine Storytime at Martindale-Brightwood
Wednesday, September 16
10:30am - 11:00am
Babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and their families will enjoy a traditional library storytime with books, felt boards, movement activities, and a hootenanny-style song sing.
Let's gather every Wednesday morning for a 30-minute storytime with Martindale-Brightwood's wooly mammoth, Mammoth. There will be dancing, reading, singing, storytelling with felt boards, and even some marching (Mammoth's favorite activity). A treasure basket and calming playthings will be provided as children develop their own ways of listening and participating.
This program emphasizes the early literacy activities of READ, TALK, and SING, which are essential habits for getting ready to read, as determined by the American Library Association's Every Child Ready to Read program.
Martindale-Brightwood Branch
The Brightwood Branch opened in 1901 as the sixth public library in Indianapolis. It served the Brightwood community at several locations along Station Street, one street west of its current North Sherman Avenue storefront site which opened in 1972. A 1996 renovation at this location doubled the size of the branch to 5,400 square feet. In 2020, a brand-new branch building, across the street from the previous branch, was completed and re-named as the Martindale-Brightwood Branch.
