Data and Drafts
Data Deep Dive into Affordable Housing and Neighborhoods
Thursday, October 29
6:00pm - 7:30pm
WFYI & the Polis Center bring together data and resources to explore important topics around equity, health, education, and beyond. Light snacks and beer from a local brewer will be available. Event is free to attend - but is only for those 21+. Registration requested due to limited capacity.
This month's Data & Drafts will offer a different experience than our typical presentation-focused format. Rather than a traditional slide presentation, we'll take a hands-on look at how community data analysis happens in real time, exploring neighborhood and housing data live using open-source tools like R.
Together, we'll examine local housing and neighborhood trends, explore questions as they emerge, and demonstrate how data can be used to better understand community conditions and inform decision-making. No technical background is required. This is not a coding workshop, but an opportunity to see community data analysis in action and engage with the story the data tells.
What to Expect
- A hands-on look at how community data analysis happens
- Time to ask questions and explore the findings
- Opportunities to connect with others working on or interested in these issues
This event is presented in partnership with the Indianapolis Public Library, WFYI Public Media, and SAVI. Beer is generously provided by Bier Brewery.
Central Library
As the hub of the Indianapolis Public Library system, Central Library showcases renowned architecture and services. The original 1917 building, designed by Paul Cret and constructed of Indiana limestone in the Greek Doric style, was considered one of the most outstanding secular buildings in the U.S. Its six-story glass and steel-framed addition, designed by Evans Woollen, opened in 2007.
